Description

the purpose of this experiment is to determine if acute melatonin supplementation alters central and peripheral cardiovascular responses to a cold pressor test at rest and during dynamic exercise.

Participation Criteria

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria. Some examples of these criteria are a person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Ages Eligible for Study:18 Years to 35 Years
Sexes Eligible for Study:ALL
Accepts Healthy Volunteers:Yes
Standard Ages:ADULT
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * Healthy men and women
  2. * Women must be premenopausal with a regular menstrual cycle (26-30 days)
  1. * History of autonomic dysfunction
  2. * Cardiovascular diseases
  3. * Diabetes
  4. * Tobacco/nicotine use
  5. * Systolic Pressure \>= 130 mmHg
  6. * Diastolic Pressure \>= 85 mmHg
  7. * Regular melatonin use \>= 1 use/week
  8. * Allergy to melatonin
  9. * Cardiometabolic medication use (e.g. anti-hypertensives, insulin-sensitizing, statins)
  10. * Sex hormone replacement medical use (e.g. testosterone, estrogen, progesterone)
  11. * Pregnancy
