A Study of Changes in Heart Function and Blood Flow in People Receiving Anesthesia

Study Overview

This clinical trial focuses on testing the efficacy of different digital interventions to promote re-engagement in cancer-related long-term follow-up care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of childhood cancer.

Description

The purpose of this study is to understand changes in heart function (how the heart pumps blood) and blood flow in people who receive general anesthesia during surgery. The researchers are particularly interested in the heart function and blood flow changes in people who experience low blood pressure (hypotension) after receiving anesthesia.

Participation Criteria

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria. Some examples of these criteria are a person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Standard Ages:ADULT, OLDER_ADULT
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * Adult patients ≥ 18 years of age requiring general anesthesia for surgery
  2. * Intubation required for anesthetic management / surgery
  3. * Anticipated prep time before incision of 20 minutes
  4. * Baseline MAP \>70mmHg
  1. * History of coronary artery disease
  2. * History of cardiac disease (e.g., HTN, arrythmias, valvular and structural abnormalities)
  3. * History of peripheral artery occlusive disease
  4. * Beta-blocker use
  5. * Anti-hypertensive medication use
  6. * Patients with epidural, spinal, paravertebral, serratus blocks preoperatively
  7. * Patients requiring rapid sequence induction (where intubation occurs concurrently with induction)
  8. * Emergency surgery
