This study examines the role of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor family and the EGF family of ligands in the regulation of non-myocytes isolated from the human heart.

Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * Clinical diagnosis of severe coronary artery disease scheduled to undergo coronary artery bypass surgery.
  1. * less than 18 years of age
  2. * unwilling or unable to provide informed consent
  3. * known active myocarditis
  4. * hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  5. * constrictive pericarditis or other significant pericardial disease
  6. * severe pulmonary hypertension
  7. * significant renal impairment (Cr \> 2.5 mg/dL)
  8. * severe ventricular arrhythmias
  9. * pregnancy
