Study Overview

This clinical trial focuses on testing the efficacy of different digital interventions to promote re-engagement in cancer-related long-term follow-up care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of childhood cancer.

Description

The aim of this study is to assess whether the use of a commercially available nutraceutical, turmeric, is an effective option to manage pain and stiffness in patients with basal joint arthritis. To conduct a pilot Randomized Controlled Trial evaluating the impact of turmeric on basal joint arthritis.

Participation Criteria

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria. Some examples of these criteria are a person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Ages Eligible for Study:40 Years
Sexes Eligible for Study:ALL
Accepts Healthy Volunteers:No
Standard Ages:ADULT, OLDER_ADULT
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * 40 years of age or older
  2. * English fluency and literacy
  3. * Seeking care for basal joint pain
  4. * Tender over basal joint
  5. * Positive distraction rotation test (rotation of the thumb metacarpal base while applying axial traction)
  6. * Radiographic evidence of Eaton stage 1 and 2 only
  1. * Secondary gains (litigations or worker compensation) procedures that may interfere with patients' motivation for treatment
  2. * Inability or unwillingness to participate in a trial study
  3. * Rheumatoid Arthritis or other inflammatory disorder diagnoses
  4. * Post-traumatic osteoarthritis
  5. * Patients on Coumadin/Steroids/NSAIDs/Tylenol
  6. * Diabetes Mellitus
  7. * Pregnant or lactating women
  8. * Basal joint arthritis of Eaton stage 3
  9. * Patients seeking other treatment for their basal joint arthritis (splint, corticosteroid injection, surgery)
