Study Overview

This clinical trial focuses on testing the efficacy of different digital interventions to promote re-engagement in cancer-related long-term follow-up care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of childhood cancer.

Description

The purpose of this project is to conduct a randomized control trial with 470 Veterans to examine the impact of a revised version of Motivational Interviewing to Address Suicidal Ideation (MI-SI-R) on risk for suicide attempts and suicidal ideation when compared to high quality usual care.

Participation Criteria

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria. Some examples of these criteria are a person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Standard Ages:ADULT, OLDER_ADULT
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * Veteran status,
  2. * admitted to an inpatient unit, referred by a suicide prevention coordinator, or identified as high-risk via data extraction,
  3. * age 18 and over,
  4. * English speaking and reading, and
  5. * ability to understand the study and provide informed consent,
  6. * high-risk status confirmed by suicide attempt within a month on the Columbia- Suicide Severity Rating Scale or a score \> 5 on the Scale for Suicidal Ideation
  1. * current psychosis,
  2. * active mania,
  3. * dementia,
  4. * impaired decision making capacity, and
  5. * institutionalization due to hospitalization in a non-VA facility, jail, or prison.
