Word Learning from Parentese in Autistic Children

Study Overview

This clinical trial focuses on testing the efficacy of different digital interventions to promote re-engagement in cancer-related long-term follow-up care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of childhood cancer.

Description

The overall objective of this research is to determine whether parentese delivered in the video format (Aim 1) and in live interaction (Aim 2) facilitates novel word learning in autistic children and to investigate if there are factors that influence the effect of parentese on word learning (Aim 3).

Participation Criteria

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria. Some examples of these criteria are a person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Sexes Eligible for Study:ALL

Standard Ages:CHILD
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * children with or without a diagnosis of ASD between 18 and 59 months
  1. * hears another language more than 10% of time based on parent report
  2. * has uncorrected visual impairment or hearing impairment
  3. * has developmental disorders or medical conditions other than ASD that affect language or cognition (excepting psychiatric conditions often comorbid with ASD such as ADHD)
