Health Literacy in the Perioperative Setting

Study Overview

This clinical trial focuses on testing the efficacy of different digital interventions to promote re-engagement in cancer-related long-term follow-up care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of childhood cancer.

Description

The purpose of this study is to determine the association of the social determinants of health with perioperative health literacy in caregivers of children presenting for surgery. Another purpose is to determine the association of caregiver health literacy with preoperative caregiver anxiety and postoperative patient pain scores.

Participation Criteria

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria. Some examples of these criteria are a person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Ages Eligible for Study:3 Years to 17 Years
Sexes Eligible for Study:ALL
Accepts Healthy Volunteers:No
Standard Ages:CHILD
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * Caregivers of children age 3-17 years
  2. * Patient undergoing ambulatory dental rehabilitation, orchiopexy, inguinal hernia repair, or tonsillectomy +/- adenoidectomy +/- ear tubes under general anesthesia.
  3. * Primary language must be English, Spanish, Arabic, Nepali, or Somali.
  1. * ASA ≥ 3
  2. * chronic pain condition
  3. * inpatient
  4. * regional anesthesia.
