Sleep Health Enhancement in Midlife Adults

Despite the strong links between sleep and AD, a sleep health enhancement has yet to be targeted in mid-life adults (45-64 years old) to delay or prevent AD. An intervention aimed at enhancing sleep health is a critical opportunity for primary prevention to potentially delay the onset of AD. The objective of the proposed study is to develop and assess the feasibility, acceptability, and treatment effect of a comprehensive sleep health intervention (SHI) on improving sleep health in mid-life adults

Goal Setting to Promote Physical Activity Adherence in Midlife Adults

Engaging in regular physical activity during midlife is a key lifestyle behavior associated with reduced risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). Yet nearly half of midlife adults (48%) do not meet national physical activity guidelines. The purpose of this mechanistic trial is to identify effective goal setting techniques to enhance psychosocial processes of self-regulation for the successful promotion of PA and adherence to national PA guidelines among midlife adults, with the long-term goal of reducing AD/ADRD risk

Health Behavior Change in Midlife Adults at Risk for Alzheimer's Disease

Modifying health behaviors like physical activity level, diet, stress, and mental activity level can lower risk for Alzheimer's disease, but many middle-aged and older adults find it difficult to sustain health behavior changes over the long term. This project will develop a new intervention that educates people about Alzheimer's disease risk factors and helps them understand how their personal health beliefs may prevent them from making long-lasting lifestyle changes. The goal is to help people sustain health behavior changes to prevent or delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Reducing Blood Pressure in Mid-life Adult Binge Drinkers

This study has two phases: Phase 1 is to examine blood pressure, microvascular function, and sympathetic nerve activity in mid-life adult binge drinkers vs. alcohol abstainers/moderate drinkers. Phase 2 is to examine the effect of 8-week aerobic exercise training on blood pressure, microvascular function, and sympathetic nerve activity in mid-life adult binge drinkers
