Long-Term Outcomes of LAA Contrast Flow in CT Scans After Endocardial LAA Closure: The CF-CT Registry
Description

This study is intended to assess the incidence and correlation to the development of peri-device leaks (PDLs), device related thrombosis (DRTs) and cerebral vascular accident (CVA)/transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) in association with left atrial appendage contrast flow (LAA-CF). It will be a multi-center, retrospective study. Approximately 100 subject charts will be reviewed.

Description

The objective of this study is to evaluate 6-to-12-month radiographic outcomes of patients with sacroiliac joint disruptions or degenerative sacroiliitis that have already undergone treatment with the CATAMARAN SI Joint Fusion System. In addition, retrospective and prospective clinical outcomes will be evaluated.

Evaluation of 18F-TFB PET/CT Scan in Patients With Differentiated Thyroid Cancer
Description

This phase II study evaluates F-18 tetrafluoroborate (18F-TFB) PET/CT scan in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer. Diagnostic imaging is necessary for planning treatment, monitoring therapy response, and identifying sites of recurrent or metastatic disease in differentiated thyroid cancer. 18F-TFB PET/CT may accurately detect recurrent and metastatic thyroid cancer lesions, with the potential to provide information for patient management that is better than the current standard of care imaging practices.

A Study of 68Gallium PSMA-PET/CT Scans in People With Bladder Cancer or Skin Cancer
Description

The purpose of this study is to see whether 68Gallium PSMA-PET/CT scans are an effective way to detect sites of cancer in people with metastatic bladder cancer or skin cancer. The study researchers want to learn if a 68Gallium PSMA PET/CT scan will work better, the same, or not as well as the PET/CT scans doctors usually use for imaging bladder cancer or skin cancer (FDG-PET/CT scan).

68Ga-FAPi-46 PET/CT Scan in Imaging Patients With Sarcoma
Description

This early phase I trial studies an imaging technique called 68Ga-FAPi-46 PET/CT to determine where and to which degree the FAPI tracer (68Ga-FAPi-46) accumulates in normal and cancer tissues in patients with sarcoma. PET is an established imaging technique that utilizes small amounts of radioactivity attached to very minimal amounts of tracer, in the case of this research, 68Ga-FAPi. Because some cancers take up 68Ga-FAPi it can be seen with PET. CT utilizes x-rays that traverse body from the outside. CT images provide an exact outline of organs and potential inflammatory tissue where it occurs in patient's body.

Outcome of Patients With Mild Head Injury and Presence of an Acute Traumatic Abnormality on CT Scan of Head
Description

Background: Patients with mild blunt traumatic brain injury (TBI) are frequently transferred to Level 1 trauma centers (L1TC) if they have any positive finding of any acute intracranial injury identified on a CT scan of the head. The hypothesis for the study is that patients with such injuries and minor changes on the Head CT scan can be safely managed at community hospitals (CH). Methods: Patients with blunt, mild TBI (defined as a GCS 13-15 at presentation) presenting to CH, L1TC, and transferred from CH to L1TC between March, 2012 and February, 2014 were included. Minor changes on head CT were defined as: 1) epidural hematoma\<2mm; 2) subarachnoid hemorrhage\<2mm; 3) subdural hematoma\<4mm; 4) intraparenchymal hemorrhage\<5mm; 5) minor pneumocephalus; or 6) linear or minimally depressed skull fracture. TBI-specific interventions were defined as intracranial pressure monitor placement, administration of hyperosmolar therapy, or neurosurgical operation. Three groups of patients were compared: 1) those receiving treatment at CH, 2) those transferred from CH to L1TC, and 3) those presenting directly to L1TC. The primary endpoint was the need for TBI-specific intervention and secondary outcome was death of any patient.

18F-DCFPyL PET-CT Scan and Prostate Cancer
Description

Primary Objective: The primary objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of 18F-DCFPyL PET-CT for initial staging of prostate cancer in Veterans compared to conventional imaging (99mTc-MDP bone scan and Diagnostic CT or MRI). The primary clinical endpoint of our study is the percent of Veterans with prostate cancer in which the 18F-DCFPyL PET-CT identifies M1 disease at initial staging. Secondary Objectives: Frequency of the change in primary treatment plan after initial staging.

Patterns and Prevalence of FDG Extravasation in PET/CT Scans
Description

PET (Positron Emission Tomography) images are used to help make patient management decisions in staging and treatment assessment, often after a cancer diagnosis. Improper injections of PET tracers (dye) may occur approximately 15% of the time. This is known as extravasation or infiltration, and it compromises the doctor's ability to read the PET image. Often, the site where the tracer is injected into the vein (usually in the inside of the elbow) are not in the images taken, so reading physicians are unaware that an extravasation or infiltration has occurred. Technology exists to capture time activity curves (amount of tracer in a location over a period of time) during the PET tracer uptake period (usually once the tracer is injected, the tracer circulates for 60 minutes prior to images), which can enable physicians to accurately detect extravasations and infiltration. This information is currently unavailable to physicians reading routine PET/CT (computed tomography) scans. Time activity curves information gathered from these sensors during the circulation period appear to match the brief pictures taken approximately 70 minutes after the tracer injection. This study will determine if these time activity curves correspond to PET images of the injection site taken during the tracer uptake period. If time activity curves correspond to PET images, they can be used to determine if the tracer was properly injected. If there was an improper injection, clinicians can be alerted to this fact and interpret the image with this additional information.

68Ga-PSMA PET-CT Scan for Diagnosis and Management of Prostate Cancer
Description

This is a phase II clinical trial study to show how well the 68Ga-PSMA-11 (ProstaMedix™) PET-CT scan works in detecting tumor location and size in patients with suspected or confirmed prostate cancer, as well as prostate cancer that may have come back in patients with elevated PSA ( a prostate-specific antigen tumor marker) after initial treatment.

Dual-energy CT (DECT) provides information on the blood volume in tumors and lymph nodes. As tumors respond to treatment, preliminary data suggests that the blood volumes changes as well. Investigators are therefore using DECT to test whether it can be used on radiation treatment to rapidly assess response to treatment.

The primary objectives are: 1. To investigate which healthcare workers and other individuals contribute to the decision to order computed tomography (CT) scans for emergency department (ED) patients. 2. To investigate the specific reasons healthcare workers and other individuals order or request CT scans for ED patients. 3. To determine the frequency of clinically important actions following CT scan results. Once the drivers of ED CT utilization are identified, interventions including education, incentives for compliance with evidence-based best practices, and interventions for noncompliance could be targeted appropriately.

This purpose of this study is to determine the ability of an 18F-fluoro-L-dihydroxyphenylalanine (18F-DOPA) PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scan to detect a focal lesion of hyperinsulinism and determine the location in patients with congenital hyperinsulinism, Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome and suspected insulinoma. Study of Effectiveness of Smaller Gauge Fenestrated Catheters for Use in IV Contrast Enhanced CT Scans
Description

The purpose of this study is to compare multidetector computed tomography (CT) image quality following peripheral venous high pressure injection of iodinated intravenous contrast media between a 20 gauge (GA) fenestrated, intravenous catheter (BD Nexiva™ Diffusics™) and an 18 GA non-fenestrated, intravenous catheter. In the contrast enhanced CT procedure (CECT), a machine (power injector) is used to rapidly deliver contrast agent to an individual's circulatory system. The contrast allows for greater differentiation of tissues in images of the area of interest, affording a better opportunity to visually assess the area and hence make a more accurate diagnosis. CECT often requires a high rate of contrast flow (≥ 5 mL/sec) through the IV catheter to provide sufficient contrast for an acceptable image. Typically an 18 GA IV catheter is required to achieve these high flow rates; however, often the patient does not have a vein that will accommodate this large size catheter. The BD Nexiva™ Diffusics™ IV catheter is designed to deliver a higher flow rate than a conventional catheter of the same gauge by incorporating fenestrations (small openings) near the tip of the catheter that allow fluid to exit the catheter in addition to that which normally exits through the main opening at the tip of the catheter.

Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in the USA. Early stage lung cancer is asymptomatic. Most patients with lung cancer are usually symptomatic at diagnosis and already have advanced stage disease. Low dose CT screening (LDCT) for high risk individuals has recently been shown to decrease lung cancer mortality by 20%. However, 4 out of 5 lung cancer deaths are not prevented with LDCT screening alone.

A Clinical Study to Limit Physiologic Intestinal FDG Uptake Uptake on PET-CT Scans
Description

Patients who undergo PET-CT scans to look for cancer are given an intravenous contrast (FDG) that is taken-up by active cells such as cancer cells. This contrast can then be seen in the body using the PET-CT scanner. However, cells in the colon also take up the FDG, and can produce "false positive" signals from the colon. Our hypothesis is that much of this signal comes from bacteria that are present in high concentrations in the colon. If this is the case, using an antibiotic to suppress the activity of bacteria may improve the ability of PET-CT to distinguish abnormal cells from normal cells in the colon.

Breathing Synchronized PET/CT Scans for the Detection of Malignant Lung & Liver Lesions and Assessment of Tumor Glycolysis
Description

In this particular study the physicians want to use a new technique of how they obtain the PET/CT pictures. It is called breath-hold (BH) PET/CT". As the name suggests, they will ask the patient to hold their breath for about 20-30 seconds, and only during that time will they obtain pictures. This is repeated several times. In contrast to the standard PET/CT scan, they expect less "blurring" of the pictures, so that they can see the tumor better and measure the uptake of radioactive sugar in the tumor better and more reliably. Basically, this is the difference between taking pictures of a runner as compared to taking pictures of a person standing still. Since PET images need to be obtained over several minutes and people can not hold their breath for this extended time, we break the procedure into several cycles of 20-30 seconds (or longer, if possible) and then add all the "frozen" pictures in the end into one. They want to know if BH PET/CT scan measure changes in the cancer during therapy (i.e., from the baseline scan before therapy to the follow up scan at within 4 weeks later).

This is a prospective study with the following objectives: Primary Objective: 1. To estimate the prevalence of unsuspected VTE in oncology patients on routine staging CT scans of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis. Secondary Objectives: 2. To identify symptoms commonly associated with VTE that are present in cancer patients undergoing routine staging CT scans with findings of unsuspected VTE. 3. To identify the risk factors and demographic characteristics in outpatient cancer patients associated with the development of unsuspected VTE. 4. To determine the incidence of recurrence of new VTE in patients with unsuspected VTE at 3 and 6 months of follow-up.

PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying fludeoxyglucose F 18 PET scan performed before and after ultra short-term dexamethasone therapy to see how well it measures changes in nodules in patients with lung nodules.
