Pilot, randomized, non-blinded clinical trial to generate preliminary data to evaluate the impact of the OsciPulse system on serum d-dimer levels compared to standard of care intermittent compression therapy for DVT prophylaxis in patients admitted in the neuro ICU or intermediate neurological care unit with acute ischemic stroke.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and efficacy of the OsciPulse System in reducing serum d-dimer levels in hospitalized ischemic stroke patients.

This is prospective cohort study in pregnant women who present with signs and symptoms of possible deep vein thrombosis (DVT). All patients will have the same method of assessment of their DVT symptoms (the LEFt clinical decision rule will be applied and D-dimer test will be done) to determine if a compression ultrasound is required. All patients will be followed for a period of 3 months.
ADVICE is a randomised, international, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The purpose of the ADVICE study is to compare the safety and efficacy of vorapaxar in reducing d-dimer expression and markers of cellular immune activation over a period of 12 weeks among people with HIV infection who are successfully treated with combination antiretroviral therapy containing an HIV integrase inhibitor. A secondary objective of the study will be to demonstrate that following cessation of vorapaxar in patients with well controlled HIV replication there will be an increase in the levels of d-dimer over a 6 week period. 60 participants from 4 clinical sites in Australia and the USA will be recruited and followed for a minimum of 18 weeks.

The purpose of this study is to determine if the risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) after stopping therapy is low and acceptable in patients with a first unprovoked proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE) who have completed 3 months of therapy and who have a negative D-dimer test on therapy and 1 month after stopping therapy.
The purpose of this study is to see if a blood test (D-dimer) is as precise as the CT scan for the detection of clots. A pulmonary embolism is an obstruction of the blood vessels in your lungs usually due to a blood clot that travels to the lungs usually from the leg. Research has shown that the results of a specific blood test (D-dimer) can be used instead of a CT scan to diagnose clots. D-dimer is a valuable diagnostic marker in either detecting the presence of or monitoring the progress of blood clots. D-dimer assays have proven to be a beneficial diagnostic tool in the evaluation of patients with suspected pulmonary embolism (PE).
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the ability of STA® Liatest® D-Di combined with a clinical pretest probability (PTP) to safely exclude pulmonary embolism (PE) or Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) in a 3 month follow-up.
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the health systems worldwide. Many tools have been developed in response to the pandemic, but there is no current way to quickly screen multiple people for the disease. Research has shown that people with COVID-19 have higher levels of some proteins involved in the immune response and inflammation. These proteins can be detected in sweat using a special camera. Researchers want to see if analysis of sweat from fingerprints could be used to detect COVID-19 infection in people. Objective: To test a new technology to detect COVID-19 infection based on an analysis of sweat from fingerprints. Eligibility: Adults ages 18 and older who tested positive or negative for COVID-19 within the last 7 days. Design: Participants will visit the NIH Clinical Center for one day within 7 days from COVID-19 testing. The visit will last for 3 to 4 hours. Participants who show symptoms for COVID-19 with a positive test will give blood samples to correlate with the sweat markers. About 1/2 tablespoon of blood will be drawn. For sweat markers, 10 fingers will be imaged by a camera using a touchless system. This will be repeated 3 times. It will take about 15 minutes. Participants will use the device. They will get instructions and watch a short video on how to use the device.
This is a prospective multi-center observational study which purpose is to evaluate the ability of blood-based inflammatory markers to risk-stratify patients hospitalized for Covid-19. Blood-based biomarkers examined include: soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR), C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin, D-dimer, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase and interleukin-6.
Sequential randomized, multicenter, active comparator study to evaluate the hypothesis that rNAPc2 (AB201), a novel, potent and highly selective tissue factor inhibitor with anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory and potential antiviral properties, shortens time to recovery compared to heparin in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and elevated D-dimer levels.
This study will evaluate the establishment of anticoagulation ("re-anticoagulation") of subjects with edoxaban following reversal by PER977 and will identify a dose regimen of PER977 that reverses the effects of edoxaban for up to 21 hours.
It is common practice to use antifibrinolytic agents before and during cardiopulmonary bypass. They are not without side effects. The investigators want to show that there is no proof of fibrinolysis in standard sternotomy cardiac surgery patients before cardiopulmonary bypass, and that antifibrinolytic agents should only be started on cardiopulmonary bypass.
This pilot study will test the feasibility and acceptability of a 12 week combined aerobic and strength training intervention among persons with HIV who are age 50 or older and do not exercise frequently, and its preliminary effects on aging-related outcomes . The study uses an randomized, controlled trial design and is intended to lead to a larger clinical trial with long-term follow-up. The intervention incorporates small group instruction from a trainer, a small wearable accelerometer to provide accurate data on physical activity, and real-time feedback to participants about exercise levels. The primary outcome measure will be changes in fitness, measured as change in maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). The control group will receive a comparable exercise intervention after they complete 12 weeks of observation.
PER977 monotherapy and co-administration following 60 mg edoxaban will have an acceptable safety and tolerability profile with no impact on pro-coagulant biomarkers. A dose of PER977 that reverses the effects of edoxaban on the pharmacodynamic (PD) biomarkers (point of care prothrombin time \[PoC-PT\]), and/or secondary biomarkers (thromboelastography reaction time \[TEG-R\]) will be identified.
The purpose of this trial is to investigate D-Dimer levels, a surrogate marker of venous thromboembolism, in pregnant/postpartum white women as compared to pregnant/postpartum black women, and pregnant/postpartum women with sickle cell trait. The investigators will determine whether increased D-Dimer levels are reflected in a greater incidence of thrombosis in the postpartum patient, as well as the prevalence of symptomatic venous thrombosis in black patients as compared to pregnant white patients and women with sickle cell trait. The investigators will also investigate the effect of blood group on these parameters. If there is evidence that there is an increased risk of thrombosis in sickle cell trait, the investigators will plan a trial of prophylactic anticoagulation during the last trimester and the four weeks post partum for patients with sickle cell trait and compare this population to patients who do not receive prophylactic anticoagulation.
A pulmonary embolism (PE) is a blockage in one of the arteries of the lungs, and is usually caused by a traveling blood clot. The D-dimer blood test is currently used to diagnose PEs, but it is not always accurate for individuals who have recently undergone surgery or who have inflammatory-provoking diseases. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Carboximeter, a new PE diagnostic device that measures carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2) output, in individuals at risk for developing PEs.
