COMPLETED
A Study of the Incidence of Intraocular Inflammation and Suspected Endophthalmitis Among Patients Treated With Aflibercept, Vial and Pre-filled Syringe, 2014-2022
Description

Specific study objectives include: * To describe patient and provider characteristics for aflibercept patients and aflibercept user injections by aflibercept dispensing device, overall, and stratified by time (quarterly, annually). * To estimate the annual and quarterly incidence of intraocular inflammation (IOI) and suspected endophthalmitis for aflibercept user injections by aflibercept dispensing device. Secondary objectives • To estimate the annual incidence of IOI and suspected endophthalmitis for aflibercept user injections by dispensing device, stratified by indication for use, history of IOI, and provider characteristics.

Safety and Efficacy of Intracameral Zimoxin for Prevention of Endophthalmitis After Cataract Surgery
Description

Intracameral injection of 0.1% moxifloxacin solution after cataract surgery to prevent endophthalmitis

Conditions
TERMINATED
Endophthalmitis Cultures
Description

The intent of this surveillance study will be to obtain written permission from patients with bacterial endophthalmitis in order to compare sterilization rates of their cultured bacterial isolates to standard therapy (vancomycin and ceftazidime) versus combination therapy with vancomycin, ceftazidime, and moxifloxacin. Research hypothesis: 1. Cultured bacterial isolates will demonstrate faster in vitro sterilization rates with combination treatment (vancomycin, ceftazidime, and moxifloxacin) compared to "standard therapy" with vancomycin and ceftazidime. 2. Longitudinal analysis of resistance patterns of cultured isolates will show increasing rates of multi-antibiotic resistance.

COMPLETED
Endogenous Endophthalmitis in the Inpatient Setting
Description

The purpose of this study is to determine the rate of endogenous endophthalmitis in patients admitted to Stanford Hospital with a systemic infection and positive blood cultures, as this may improve the clinical care of this population of patients.

Conditions
COMPLETED
Prophylaxis Prior to Cataract Surgery Conjunctival Flora and Optimal Ocular Sterilization Technique Prior to Cataract Surgery
Description

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the conjunctival flora prior to cataract or vitrectomy surgery comparing mupirocin ointment applied to the conjunctiva along with standard ocular sterilization vs. standard ocular sterilization alone.

COMPLETED
Hypochlorous Acid Disinfection Prior to Cataract Surgery
Description

Antibiotics are commonly utilized to reduce the bacterial population of the eye prior to surgery with the assumption that this reduces the risk of endophthalmitis, although it is not clear if this actually occurs. This study will investigate the use of Hypochlorous Acid, a commercially available over the counter (OTC) medication to see if this will reduce the bacterial population prior the cataract surgery.

SUSPENDED
Intracameral Antibiotic Safety Study
Description

The goal of this study is to determine the safety (but not efficacy in preventing infection) of sterile-packaged and pre-loaded injectable solutions of both vancomycin and moxifloxacin at certain dosages and concentrations as prepared by a compounding pharmacy when used intracamerally at the time of cataract surgery.

COMPLETED
Dosage Study for Vigamox Eye Drops Prior to Intravitreal Injections
Description

Antibiotic eye drops are being used before and after intravitreal injections. Currently there is no study indicating the benefit of there usage or their dosage. In this study we compare the efficacy of Vigamox eye drops (antibiotic)starting 3 days prior to the injection versus 1 day prior to intravitreal injection.
