The Gratitude Gallery - A Positive Psychology Intervention
Description

This study will assess the feasibility and acceptability of a positive psychology intervention, The Gratitude Gallery, for increasing gratitude in adults. The study hypothesizes that participants will find the activity feasible and acceptable and complete the intervention as directed. The project also hypothesizes that those that complete the intervention will show an increase in self-reported gratitude, as well as a decrease in symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Gratitude Intervention for Cardiac Rehabilitation Patients
Description

This is a single-center cohort study of patients in a cardiac rehabilitation program with a diagnosis of cardiovascular disease (CVD), including heart failure, coronary artery disease, post myocardial infarction, post percutaneous coronary intervention and post cardiac surgery. Participants will be randomized to the gratitude intervention or an attention control group. This study is a pilot study to determine the feasibility and acceptability of administering the gratitude intervention in a cardiac rehabilitation setting.

The Impact of Gratitude on Biology and Behavior in Persons With Heart Disease
Description

Overall, the investigators aim to recruit 150 subjects during their hospitalization for an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). At two weeks post-ACS, the investigators will assess levels of gratitude and optimism, draw blood for baseline levels of biomarkers, gather baseline information about health behaviors critical to cardiac health, and obtain baseline measures of symptoms and function. Finally, the investigators will repeat assessments of biomarkers, behavior, and function at 6 months to allow us to assess the impact of gratitude and optimism on these outcomes; the investigators will also have an objective measure of physical activity via accelerometer (step counter) at 6 months. Specific Aim #1: To prospectively assess the association between gratitude/optimism 2 weeks after ACS and improvement in biological markers of cardiac health at 6 months post-ACS. Hypothesis: Higher levels of gratitude/optimism at 2 weeks will be associated with greater reductions in levels of biomarkers associated with negative heart health between 2 weeks and 6 months. Specific Aim #2 (\*primary aim\*): To assess the association between gratitude/optimism 2 weeks after ACS and subsequent adherence to health behaviors known to improve post-ACS prognosis at 6 months. Hypothesis: Higher levels of gratitude/optimism at 2 weeks will be associated with greater amounts of physical activity (measured by accelerometer) at 6 months (primary study outcome measure), and greater improvements in self-reported adherence to health behaviors (activity, diet, and medication) between 2 weeks and 6 months. Specific Aim #3: To assess the association between gratitude/optimism at 2 weeks and non-elective cardiac rehospitalizations (and other clinical outcomes) at 6 months. Hypothesis: Higher levels of gratitude/optimism at 2 weeks will be associated with greater improvements in depression, health-related quality of life, function, cardiac symptoms, and possibly readmissions, between 2 weeks and 6 months.

Examination of Psychological and Physiological Pathways Linking Gratitude and Pain
Description

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the effects of a brief gratitude intervention on individuals' psychological and physiological responses to acute pain. Furthermore, these associations will be examined in the context of genetic variations associated with both pain and psychological processes.

The Effects of a Life Coaching Seminar on Gratitude and Psychological Well-Being
Description

This study will consist of a randomized experimental group and a control group, In addition to the control and experimental group, there will also be a non-randomized motivated experimental group. Approximately 75 males and females from the ages of 18 to 80 will take part in this study. Subjects will be randomly divided into a Control and Experimental Group. Subjects for the control and experimental group will be recruited from a Tony Robbins Facebook page, and subjects in the experimental group (DWD Group) will be admitted to the Tony Robbins Date With Destiny Event (December 2019) in West Palm Beach for free, while the subjects randomly assigned to the control group, will not attend the event, but instead be required to a Gratitude Journaling experiment (Three Good Things Intervention). Psychological assessment surveys will be taken before the event, directly after the event, and one month following the event. The control group will take the psychological assessment before beginning journaling, directly after completing journaling, and one month following completion of journaling.

The Effects of Manipulating Expectations in a Gratitude Intervention
Description

Gratitude - an emotion felt when an individual receives something beneficial from other people or entities - has been shown to positively affect well-being. Beginning in 2003, "count your blessings" interventions - in which participants list items they are grateful for, and gratitude letter writing interventions were designed to cultivate gratitude. Gratitude interventions have many positive outcomes; they can increase well-being and life satisfaction (Froh, Sefick, \& Emmons, 2008) and increase self-esteem (Rash, Matsuba, \& Prkachin, 2011) to name a few. Knowing the benefits of gratitude prior to an intervention could affect participant behavior and health outcomes. Past studies have illustrated that sharing information about treatments changes expectations and improves outcomes (Zion \& Crum, 2018). For instance, overt medical treatments are more effective than hidden ones (Colloca, Lopiano, Lanotte, \& Benedetti, 2004). The proposed study is designed to evaluate whether expectations about intervention efficacy can enhance the benefits of a brief gratitude intervention. Specifically, the investigators will test if providing information on the benefits of gratitude will enhance intervention outcomes. This 3-armed randomized controlled trial will have the following conditions: gratitude + expectation, gratitude, and events control. Participants will be undergraduate college students and the online intervention will last two weeks. Participants in the two gratitude conditions will login to an online form three times a week for two weeks and make entries of up to five things they are grateful for. The form for participants in the gratitude + expectation condition will also provide information about benefits of gratitude. An everyday events control will be used to provide a neutral comparison condition. This group will be instructed to type up to five things or events of note from their day on their form. Outcome measures will be collected via an online survey before and immediately after the intervention. The primary outcome is well-being and the secondary outcomes are sleep quality and quantity, state gratitude, positive affect, healthcare self-efficacy, stress, and depressive symptoms. The investigators predict that participants in the gratitude + expectation condition will have enhanced intervention outcomes compared to participants in comparison conditions.

Skills to Enhance Positivity in Young Adults
Description

The goal of this study is to test the feasibility and acceptability of a positive affect intervention for suicide in a population of young adults. Skills to Enhance Positivity (STEP) has been demonstrated to be feasible and acceptable among adolescents when delivered individually. The current study aims to test feasibility and acceptability in a group setting of young adults. The specific aims of STEP also seek to establish whether participants who received STEP report a significant increase in attention towards positive affect compared to those receiving Treatment As Usual (TAU). They also seek to explore whether participants who received STEP will report a significant decrease in suicidal ideation and depression compared to those receiving TAU. The final aim is to explore whether an increase in attention to positive affect regardless of condition is a potential mechanism of change for reductions in suicidal ideation and depression. Participants will be randomized into STEP or TAU groups, they will complete baseline and follow-up assessments after a period of 3-months. Participants enrolled in STEP will receive in-person group sessions focusing on psychoeducation of positive affect as well as skills in mindfulness, gratitude and savoring designed to promote positive affect. After completing the group sessions they will also receive text messages for one month, where they will receive prompts to practice skills they learned in the group setting.

Short Practices Well-being Study
Description

The goal of this research study is to better understand the effects of short practices on well-being. Participants will be asked to complete a task that will take 5-10 minutes, followed by a set of surveys. They will also be invited to complete a second set of surveys \~7 days later.

Description

This pilot study will assess the feasibility of a gratitude intervention to promote physical activity, and well-being and positively impact biomarkers of health among older African American breast cancer survivors. The intervention will also include a goal-setting component to promote exercise readiness and examine the cultural phenomena of the Superwoman schema among Black women.

CaringBridge (CB) is an online health community for people undergoing challenging health journeys. This platform provides an opportunity for individuals and their caregivers to rally support for a loved-one during a health journey. CaringBridge offers the opportunity for expressive writing through journal entries, wellbeing resources, participant health journey stories, and practical scheduling and communication tools to support community, healing, and wellbeing. Loving Kindness Meditation (LKM) is a systemized mind-body approach developed to increase loving acceptance and has been shown to increase resilience in the face of adversity. Psychology Mobile Apps for Parents in a Pandemic
Description

The purpose of this study is to determine whether parents of young children (aged 10 and under) think it is feasible (in other words, doable) and acceptable (in other words, satisfactory) to use a mobile app designed to provide personalized education and enrichment for 10 minutes/day for 14 days. The investigators hope to learn if it is reasonable to ask parents to use one of three different apps and if parents are satisfied with their participation in the study. If so, the investigators can continue to study the effect of these apps on parents' stress in future research. The investigators also plan to evaluate the effect of these app-based interventions in lowering levels of stress in parents during the COVID-19 pandemic. By conducting this study, the investigators hope to learn if there are specific app-based interventions that will lead to a reduction in stress in parents, improved parental life satisfaction, and improved parent-child interactions. If the results of this study suggest these apps may be promising at reducing stress among parents, the investigators will continue doing research on these app-based interventions.

Mobile-Web Emotion Self-management Tool
Description

The investigators developed a responsive mobile-web app, "Jauntly," which was designed to take advantage of the known connections between positive emotions, stress reduction and stress resilience. The app's goal was to lead users through research-proven positive emotion-enhancing exercises and relevant educational materials. Intervention activities covered five well-being-generating content areas: 1) promoting the experience and recognition of gratitude; 2) encouraging positive social relationships and feelings of social support; 3) improving stress resilience via mindfulness and other relaxation-focused activities; 4) focusing and capitalizing on individual strengths (as opposed to limitations and weaknesses); and 5) general positive mood inducing activities. Program content was adapted from a variety of stress-relevant research areas including health psychology/psychosomatic medicine, social/personality psychology, positive psychology, and clinical psychology.

Journaling Intervention for Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) and Chronic Overlapping Pain
Description

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether a 2-week gratitude journaling activity is feasible and acceptable for individuals with Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) and chronic overlapping pain. The study will also look at whether this activity is helpful in reducing pain and how much it interferes with daily life. The primary aims of this study are to: * Assess whether individuals with TMD and chronic overlapping pain are able to complete the 2-week gratitude journaling activity as planned (feasibility). * Evaluate how acceptable participants find the gratitude journaling activity (acceptability). The secondary aim of this study is to: • Explore whether the gratitude journaling activity reduces pain and its impact on daily life, compared to a general wellness journaling activity. Participants will: * Attend two in-person visits to complete questionnaires and take part in tests that measure how sensitive they are to pressure and heat. * Complete a 2-week journaling activity at home, writing in their journal on three days of their choice per week.
