OCTANE: Adjuvant Liposomal Doxorubicin and Carboplatin for Early-stage Triple-negative Breast Cancer
Description

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and exploratory measures of liposomal doxorubicin and carboplatin combination therapy in the adjuvant setting for early stage triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. The primary objective is to determine the effectiveness of liposomal doxorubicin and carboplatin in reducing the risk of recurrence for early stage TNBC patients. The secondary objectives involve characterizing the safety and toxicity profile of the combination therapy. Adverse events rates will be assessed using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 5.0. The exploratory objectives of the study focus on evaluating changes in circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). This measure will provide insights into the potential utility of ctDNA as a biomarker for treatment response and disease progression. By addressing these objectives, the study aims to contribute to the understanding of the benefits and risks associated with liposomal doxorubicin and carboplatin combination therapy in the adjuvant setting for early stage TNBC, potentially leading to improved treatment outcomes and patient care.

Continuous Monitoring and Management of Vaginal Health Via Multifunctional OCT/OCTA/OCE Endoscopy
Description

We have recently developed and optimized a vaginal Optical Coherence tomography/angiography endoscopy imaging system. This technology is able to obtain a comprehensive image of the vaginal epithelium, blood vessels, and lamina propria. The primary focus of this study is establishing the Optical Coherence Tomography system's capability of capturing vaginal changes that occur before and after menopause, as well as before and after treatment with fractional-CO2 laser therapy. There are two aims of this study. Aim 1: 1. To determine the feasibility and sensitivity of the integrated optical coherence endoscope to assess vaginal tissue integrity in pre, peri and postmenopausal women. Aim 2: To optically visualize the effects of fractional-CO2 laser treatment on vaginal tissue over the course of C02 vaginal laser therapy.

WF and PR OCTA in Diabetic Retinopathy
Description

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of vision loss in working-age Americans. Capillary damage from hyperglycemia causes vision loss through downstream effects, such as retinal ischemia, edema, and neovascularization (NV). Proper screening and timely treatment with laser photocoagulation and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections can minimize morbidity. In the last decade, clinicians have been able to use objective structural data from optical coherence tomography (OCT) to guide the treatment of diabetic macular edema. Other aspects of care, however, still largely depend on subjective interpretation of clinical features and fluorescein angiography (FA) to determine the disease severity and treatment threshold. The recently developed OCT angiography (OCTA) provides dye-less, injection-free, three-dimensional images of the retinal and choroidal circulation with high capillary contrast. Not only is it safer, faster, and less expensive than conventional dye-based angiography, OCTA provides the potential of giving clinicians objective tools for determining severity of disease by detecting and quantifying NV and non-perfusion.

Effects of Octacosanol During Taekwondo Training
Description

Taekwondo players undergo rapid reductions of body weight prior to their competition in order to gain a size advantage over the opponent. However, these large weight changes with concomitant high intensity exercise training induce poor lipid profiles and high levels of oxidative stress, which can be detrimental to health and sports performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the ability of the nutritional supplement octacosanol to combat the physiological detriments that can occur from these rapid weight changes paired with high intensity exercise training.

6,8-Bis(Benzylthio)Octanoic Acid, Cytarabine, and Daunorubicin Hydrochloride in Treating Older Patients With Newly Diagnosed Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Description

This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and the best dose of 6,8-bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid (CPI-613) when given together with cytarabine and daunorubicin hydrochloride and to see how well it works in treating older patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia. CPI-613 may kill tumor cells by turning off mitochondria (small structures in the cancer cells that are found in the cytoplasm \[fluid that surrounds the cell nucleus\]). Mitochondria are used by cancer cells to produce energy and are the building blocks needed to make more tumor cells. By shutting off mitochondria, CPI-613 may deprive the cancer cells of energy and other supplies that they need to survive and grow. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cytarabine and daunorubicin hydrochloride, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving CPI-613 together with cytarabine and daunorubicin hydrochloride may kill more cancer cells.

Effects of Octanoic Acid for Treatment of Essential Voice Tremor
Description

Essential voice tremor is a neurological condition that produces a regular, shaking quality in the voice. One form of drug treatment that produces some improvement in tremor of the hands is octanoic acid, which is a food additive that is similar to alcohol. Research suggests that octanoic acid may reduce tremor in the hands/arms with few side effects and no intoxication effects. This study will determine whether octanoic acid may be useful for reducing tremor when it affects the voice. Researchers are hypothesizing that octanoic acid will reduce the effects of tremor on the voice.
